Saturday 3rd September 2011 Leicester and England Ladies goalkeeper Maddie Hinch, who has just returned with the Bronze Medal winning England squad from the European Championships in Germany, formally launched the hockey season on the newly refurbished Ashdown Leisure Centre Astroturf hockey pitch on Saturday 3rd September.  The pitch has been resurfaced over the summer, with funding from Poole Borough Council and England Hockey, as part of a £350k investment to upgrade the hockey, athletics and netball facilities at Ashdown Leisure Centre. Andy Collyer, Chairman of Poole Hockey Club, said ‘This is a fantastic new facility and we are extremely grateful for the support from Poole Borough Council and England Hockey without which today would not have been possible. This is the only full sized Astroturf in Poole and provides a fantastic opportunity for players of all ages and abilities from the local community to play hockey on a superb new playing surface.’ Pictures from the launch day can be found in our Gallery page or by clicking here |
